Blue Dot is a fine propellant for many handgun calibers. Blue Dot’s of the more versatile powders, for sure, with a very broad application. Unlike with some of the slower-burning handgun powders, such as H110/WW296, it is right at home with lighter loads, even in spacious big bore revolver cartridges like the .44 Remington Magnum. My experience is that Blue Dot nips close on the heels of H110 with bullets of 200- and 210-gr. heft in the .44 Magnum, particularly from a shorter barrel. It does this with about 40% less powder than H110, making Blue Dot a very economical choice for the magnum revolver enthusiast. Also, Blue Dot is bulky enough that it takes up a lot of the case volume with those moderate charges. It’s excellent for standard to moderate-pressure loads in the .45 Colt. As the previous gentleman’s post notes, Blue Dot does offer a milder flash signature than many powders. Use a standard primer with this one, for low extreme spreads and best accuracy while keeping pressures good. Lastly, Hornady found Blue Dot to be one of the finest powders in their load development for the .44 Remington Magnum. Sierra, too, list Blue Dot as the powder producing the best accuracy in the .44 Magnum with their 210-gr. JHC. Blue Dot’s great stuff.

Lousy packaging
I ordered a pound container of blue dot powder and green dot powder at the same time. I just received my package from ups opened the box and found that both containers were just put into the box on their sides on top of each other WITHOUT ANY PACKING MATERIAL AT ALL. They were allowed to move and bounce around which in my opinion is very dangerous for gun powders. I’m a master gunsmith of almost 60 years and know that gunpowder”s should be treated and handled with extreme care. The person which packed this order should be trained allot better.

I have recently started using this powder in my 10 mm and wanted to find a powder that would work in most of my handguns. This will work in my 44 special, 44 magnum as well as in the 10mm, so it is more versatile than I thought. I appreciated the pricing and no hazmat charges with my order, and I have long appreciated the service and prompt delivery of my order from firearms world.
